Personal Background: I am a native of Colorado with my father and mother coming from humble rural Colorado roots. My maternal grandparents are German immigrants, coming to the U.S. in 1917. I grew up in Englewood Colorado graduating from Englewood High School, where I was active in sports (primarily baseball and basketball) and the Englewood Parks & Recreation district as both a participant and referee/coach for youth programs. I earned my undergraduate degree in Business Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 1976. After teaching and coaching for two years at Englewood High School, I entered full-time ministry, at Lakewood First Assembly of God. After serving nine years as a Pastor in Strasburg, and Colby, Kansas, I returned to Lakewood in 1992 and have served as the Senior Pastor of Dakota Ridge Assembly for the past fourteen years. In 2005, I earned my Master of Nonprofit Management degree from Regis University. I enjoy out door activities including running. One of my greatest running accomplishments is finishing 975th in the men’s division of the Bolder Boulder in 2001.
Family: I met my wife Debbie while at student at UNC in Greeley, this June we will mark our 30th wedding anniversary. We have two adult children: Christian is 27 and works as a youth and children’s pastor at Dakota Ridge Assembly he is married to Bridget and they are expecting their first child in October. Our daughter Stephanie is 25 and lives in Canton, Georgia. She is a Marketing Director for a property management firm and her husband Nathan serves as the youth pastor at Restoration Church in Roswell.
Community and Political Involvement: Colorado is a great State! I believe the saying, “tis a privilege to live in Colorado.” The past thirty years I have benefited from my contribution to communities where I have lived. This includes serving on a local school board to serving as a volunteer chaplain for a local National Guard Unit during Desert Strom to serving on boards of nonprofits and the Arapahoe Credit Union, serving as a precinct chair to developing relationships with individuals, churches and organizations. I am a member of So. Jeffco Rotary and served the club as president in 1996-1997.
In 2005 I founded Jericho Road Mentoring with Richard Enman former inmate at FCI Englewood. This nonprofit recruits mentors to serve children of prisoners. Sixty to seventy percent of this special at-risk population will end up incarcerated and one in ten will be incarcerated before adulthood unless a caring adult intervenes in their life. President Bush in two State of the Union addresses challenged American’s to make a difference in the lives of this special population, and address crime and imprisonment at the foundational level of personal involvement.
