Bio
A coordinator for the Youth Council for Public Policy, Michael was first elected to House District 42, located in Arapahoe County, in 2000. He is a Democrat, and served as Assistant Majority Leader in 2005 and 2006.
Official Bio
Michael and his family have lived in Aurora for over 26 years. For 18 years, Michael's mother was a public servant for the City of Aurora. A Vietnam veteran, Michael's father served 22 years in the US Army, retiring at Fitzsimons. A product of Aurora Public Schools, Michael attended Lansing Elementary, South Middle School, and graduated from Aurora Central High School in 1992. After graduating from Aurora Central High School, Michael earned a Bachelor's degree from University of Colorado at Boulder in 1996 and a Master's degree from the University of Arizona in 1998. While working toward his degree at University of Arizona, Michael taught college courses on American Government.
Michael then earned a fellowship from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Institute to work in Washington D.C as a Legislative Assistant for U.S. Representative Solomon P. Ortiz (Texas-27th). There he had the opportunity to work on federal legislation from the following policy areas: agriculture, education, health, welfare, crime, and veterans affairs.
Michael is currently the Coordinator for the Youth Council for Public Policy at the University of Colorado at Boulder, a non-partisan program aimed at educating young people about the democratic process as a tool for positive social change, empowering young voices to be responsible citizens and advocates for their generation, and inspiring active and responsible democratic participation.
Michael was first elected to the Colorado House of Representatives in November 2000. He was re-elected in November 2002 and November 2004 and is currently the Assistant Majority Leader. Michael is working hard and using his position as State Representative to ensure that his neighborhood has a strong voice at the State Capitol.
